RGB headers with splitter Seeing as there are new fans coming out with Aura support. I was wondering if anyone has tried adding RGB splitter for lights or anything else and if so how did it work.
I have 6 fans in my case with 2 rgb led strips and to hook all of this up i would need 2 4 y splitter and im not sure if this will cause problems with the motherboard headers.
Hello You have a Maximus code board It comes with 2 rgb headers, why not take advantage of them? Connect your led strips to them. I wouldn't recommend getting any splitters. Just wanted to share for anyone interested and possibly getting some feedback. This won't be easy, as the soldering is extremely small the height of the WS is about 5 mm.
The slanted resistors here are for dimming red LED's a bit, since they usually have less resistance, and has an added bonus of bridging over green. I got all information of components to use from the PDF I linked in the first post. Really I would like this to be on one layer, but I'm not sure if it can be done without adding extra wires. There's also some more research to be done on the actual performance, as too many RGB components on one 12 V line may cause problems.
Besides that, I'll also need some form of protection to not fry the motherboard, but instead bust a fuse instead. I'll have to let some electronics people take a look at it, since I'm not competent in this field. Here's the second iteration. I unified the 6V VCC inputs with one voltage regulator for all. Besides that, I added a fuse, which is needed to not fry the motherboard header. Still looking for suitable headers for in and outputs.
I was going molex for inputs at first, but I'm not sure if it's very easy to fit it on there. Thinking about going with regular pins or so. The RR resistors are variable depending on the resistance of the red LED's, might make this a potentiometer instead of a static one. Note that the left green wire GND will loop around with the rightmost green wire which is mostly hidden behind the red 12V one.

RGB lighting is a great entry point, and theming your entire PC around a color scheme can be surprisingly fun. Almost every component you choose for your PC has a part to play. While other components will all be helping accent your case, LED strips are going to be doing most of the hard work.
You have a ton of options here. Do you want RGB strips that you can change with the press of a button on a remote? Do you run colored lighting or pure white for illumination? How do you attach them to your case? We kept it super simple with our example build and used a single white Alchemy LED strip from Bitfenix. The strips have magnets for easy mounting. Extension kits can add more to the mix, and you can do a ton of customization with this kit. You can create extensive custom lighting effects, and since the RGBs are individually addressable, that gives you the option to have rainbow effects and other fanciness.
If you don't mind the higher price, this will give you tons of control over how you light your case—or your entire desk, if you want to. In the recent trend to make sure absolutely every PC component is outfitted with RGB LEDs, the major motherboard vendors have kitted out their boards with lighting.

The newest round of Z motherboards for Intel's Kaby Lake CPUs are embracing the motherboard lighting trend, and recently motherboard makers have been changing their design language and color schemes a bit to freshen things up. It's a great time to pick up a new board that fits the look you want. Black is still the standard, but you now can choose colors like silver or titanium, as they call it. As with the case, remember that color coordination is important. Pick a color scheme and RAM that fits it. The more subdued Core sticks are lower profile and offer a nice, subtle glow. Not sure if this is simple of not but here's my issue: I have a 12v common anode RGB source and am trying to power 5v common anode RGB lights on a pc fan. Essentially being able to control color with the 12v source. Or would that not work because - is split over the R G and B.
Hopefully someone could help me out. Sorry but you will have to explain in more detail about what you have. What is a 12V RGB source? Please provide links to the controller and say what sort of LED you have, for example is it a high power lighting LED?
Okay so my "source" or signal output is my Asus Motherboard header which provides a 12v 2A RGB signal, which since the leds are dimmable I think means its pwm. Since a mainboard is potentialy at stakes, let this be verified by someone else, but you should be fine just connecting the 5V pin to some 5v source on yur board and the rest to the header on the mainboard. Unfortunately no easy 5v sources all headers are 12v unless of course I use a usb header but then I'm limited to ma and I'm not sure if that would be dicey.
Could you post a picture of that 12v common anode RGB source connector? The red pin of the old molex harddrive power cables is 5V. Im looking at either powering it directly from said RGB Header by somehow stepping down the voltage but that probably wont work because as I'm looking at voltage regulators most operate BY using PWM to control voltage so any pwm signal input would be scrubbed or by finding some way to send the PWM RGB signal to a device at 12v and it outputting the same color at 5v that's why I thought Arduino forums would be a good place to start seriously What gives you the idea that the 5V from molex are "unregulated"?
Do you even know what that means? Where do you thing the replaceable fuse sits that protects your MB from overcurrent from those 15A?
